At least 80% of our rubbish can be reused, recycled or composted, if products were made with recycling as a core requirement, instead of an afterthought.

The UK average recycling rate is only about 11%.  At least 80% of our waste should be recycled.  Unfortunately, in South Tyneside, about 90% of our rubbish goes into landfill sites.

It isn't just the council's responsibility to recycle - each and every one of us contributes to waste.
