Environmental Campaigners Congratulate Fellgate Residents

Environmental campaign group Friends of the Earth have praised Fellgate residents for the knowledgeable and passionate arguments they presented at the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) Examination in Public (EiP) today.

The RSS was examining issues relating to Greenbelt land in the North East.

The EiP was well attended by Fellgate residents who are trying to protect Greenbelt land separating Tyneside and Sunderland. Ronnie Smith spoke on behalf of the Fellgate residents.

Bryan Atkinson who spoke at the RSS on behalf of Friends of the Earth said:

“Ronnie Smith was an absolute star. His sustainable and rational arguments stood out in total contrast to the ‘trash the environment for cash’ attitude of the Church Commissioners and South Tyneside council.

“I hope the planning inspector acts on the concerns of the hundreds of ordinary people who object to the merging of Tyneside with Sunderland and the traffic chaos it would bring.”
